City bike
A city bike is a bike for everyday trips around the city and small walks on flat terrain. This utilitarian type of bike is widespread all over the world, as it is adapted for riding in ordinary clothes and various weather conditions.
As a rule, the design of such a bike is simple and more suitable for urban conditions, it is aimed at comfort and practicality, rather than speed and efficiency. City bikes are equipped with a high adjustable handlebar and a large padded saddle, so a person sits straight as if on a chair (high seat). City bikes usually have fewer speeds than sports or touring models. Usually, the upper tube of the urban bike frame is low or missing, because the frame of urban bikes experiences less stress than the frames of sports bikes, and it is easier to get on and off a bike without the upper tube, especially in casual clothes. City bikes are often equipped with a trunk, fenders, chain guard and bell. There are no shock absorbers, and brakes are often drum brakes. The transmission is either without a gearshift or with a planetary gearbox built into the rear hub.
City bikes are not intended to be used as sports equipment. In some cities of the CIS and Russia, public bicycle rental systems have been implemented, including in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan.
